Dear passenger. We’re sorry to inform you…
If you do opt for compensation on top, your claim will rest on three factors.
One, the airline must be responsible for the cause of the cancellation. Two, your flight must have been scheduled to depart from the EU with any air carrier, or land in the EU with an EU air carrier. And three, and most importantly, when you received notice of the cancellation.
In general, the earlier an airline informs you, the less likely you’ll be due compensation. The table below gives you a clear idea of whether or not flight qualifies:
Pre-departure notification | Alternative flight arrival | Can I claim? |
---|---|---|
More than 14 days before | Departure/arrival irrelevant | No |
7-14 days before | Departs no more than 2 hours earlier/arrives less than 4 hours later | No |
